Chessboard

This is one of the more complicated time-consuming pieces I’ve made in the last couple of years – it has a mahogany and oak body, with mahogany and applewood squares. This has been lurking in my head for a long long time, as I originally intended to have a much fancier body and drawer, but in the end simplicity won out and I built something that will actually fit in the space I have.

Woodwork

So I’m a primary / nursery teacher these days, which has been a bit of a trek, but I’ve got my qualification and a good first year under my belt, and also plenty of time to potter in my woodshed, hence these pieces. First up is a custom bookshelf for a nursery, as their existing one was an extremely curious design that couldn’t hold books

Sides are plywood, uprights are MDF sheet, the letter boards are cannibalized from the original and the base is pine board. Painted the whole thing white with coloured dots, and oh my gosh it was lovely seeing the kids raid it when it was finished and full of books.
